May 3-4, 2014: Rhode Island Boat Show
Jump start the boating season by heading to the Rhode Island coast the first weekend in May to experience a unique statewide boat show that takes place in four venues. The annual Rhode Island Boat Show is a free, family-friendly happening and a great opportunity to see used and new sail and powerboats, get out on the water, explore Rhode Island and its excellent waterfront facilities, and meet experts from local boating businesses and dealers. If you are thinking of making Rhode Island your boating home, the weekend is a prime opportunity to visit area marinas and research berthing, service and winter storage facilities in the Ocean State, which has a no-sales-tax policy on boats and boating services. The boat show’s four venues include: Bristol (Bristol Marine & Fleet Yacht Sales), Jamestown (Conanicut Marine Services & Latitude Yacht Brokerage), Wakefield (Silver Spring Marine), and Warwick (Marinemax & Brewer Greenwich Bay Marina). The national Discover Boating program will visit two venues, with sailing clinics in Jamestown and powerboating clinics in Warwick; these hour-long sessions are a great way to get an introduction to the sport and hone your skills (space is limited so pre-register in advance).
